I first came across Goldieblox about a year ago on kickstarter and tried to buy some but at the time was no option to get them in Australia. The basic idea was to stop making shitty pink boring toys for girls – give them something more like the “build” type toys that boys typically get given.
I think this little girl sums up the problem, I’d use more swears about the messed up situation than she did, but that’s because I’m a grown up and get to throw in the odd expletive to give my rants a bit more punch.

So if you’ve watched Riley’s rant you now know the problem scope. Here’s the slightly more scripted and awesome video clip that resulted from GoldieBlox, Rube Goldberg, & Beastie Boys:

Hopefully this gains a bit of traction and we see less pushing girls towards popping out babies as their goal in life and more engineers, coders, techies as a result.

One Response to “Stop buying girls crap toys and maybe they’ll grow up to be engineers.”

2nd video is ‘no longer available due to a copyright claim’. I agree, I was looking for a gift for my niece the other day, and was pretty disheartened by all the gender stereotyping. Great to see a man recognise this as an issue of concern for females. Cheers!
