Cairns is removing fluoride treatment from its water supply. This is ridiculous that we have people listening to the tin-foil hat brigade – so I’ve created an equivalent petition to one asking for it to be removed (which got a whole 124 signers):

A ban on fluoride means more cavities. Simple as that.
Don’t let the tin-foil hat crazies dictate public health policy – listen to the experts.

The Australian Dental Association has said: “Water fluoridation has been one of the most widely studied and endorsed public health measures of all time”. The CSIRO and various Australian health departments all recommend fluoride treatment of water supplies continue.
There are conspiracy theorists who disagree, but their assertions are based around misinformation and fear-mongering. Those people can easily opt out of fluoride via buying bottled water or a home filtration system.
Please do not condemn the population (in particular the poorer households who have least access to dental treatment) of Cairns to poorer dental health due to the conspiracy theories of the vocal few ignorant people – please listen instead to medical experts.

Please add fluoride back into the Cairns water supply as per advice of medical/dental experts worldwide.The addition of fluoride to the drinking water has been universally praised by health organisations and science groups worldwide as an effective measure for reducing dental cavities/caries.
The unscientific concerns of a vocal few conspiracy theorists have been more than addressed by experts in the relevant fields and should not be taking a priority in policy decision making. Organisations such as the Australian Dental Association, CSIRO and state public health departments should be consulted on matters of health and science and these organisations have supported the fluoridation programmes.
Please heed the advice of experts over non-experts in this matter and restore fluoride to the water supply of Cairns.

Do you honestly believe the ADA have youre best interests at heart. If so, keep asking for amalgam (mercury) fillings, because that will most likely have some effect on you if flouride doesnt. Yeah, BTW I missed my RDA of flouride today, better go and swallow some more toothpaste. That should help my teeth!
What are you suggesting? That the studies that show fluoride to be effective in tooth decay prevention are a conspiracy?
That there’s some plot by the ADA to deceive us?
Do you use fluoridated toothpaste and brush/floss? If so – why? The ADA recommends that too – do they have some scam going there too?
How’s the aluminium poisoning going from that conspiracy hat you’re wearing?
I have thyroid problems. I cannot drink or take any form of fluoride, natural or synthetic as it interacts with my medication with adverse health affects. It is also a proven neurotoxin. I have had to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on water filteration systems and reverse osmosis systems since fluoride has been added to our water supply. If you are so desperate to have fluoride, take it as a supplement. Don’t put it in the water and force the people who are opposed to it, to have no choice but to drink it. It takes away our right to health and is an act of forced medicating which is a federal offence.
Did you know fluoride is only effective as a topical treatment? Meaning you apply it directly to teeth. It has no benefits to your teeth if its ingested. How do I know this? My dad has been a dentist for 25 years and strongly opposes fluoridated water as it makes no difference when ingested. It does more damage to your body, your bone density and your brain particularly your pineal gland than you realise. How do I know this? Im a registered nurse. You are aware of the benefits that you have been taught by the media, now go and do your own research off the beaten track and stop believing what your told by the media. Your obviously got more brains and intellect than to settle for what your being told. Think for yourself and question EVERYTHING.
Oh yes and would like to point out that in 1994, the New York Times reported a scientific study that revealed that aluminum and fluoride in water is responsible for the alarming increase in Alzheimer’s Disease and senile dementia as fluoride in drinking water increases toxicity of aluminum. So much for the tin hats eh?
Free thinker obviously missed all the studies since that could not replicate the link with Alzheimers, and the eventual admission by the original research group that they had accidentally contaminated the samples during the staining process.
Selective reporting of research is, well, unscientific. That’s why credible institutions like the NHMRC commission reviews of the totality of the literature, and make recommendations based on _all_ the data, not just those that suit a point of view.
If you have issues with the credibility of the NHMRC, well, if the tin hat fits….
Advice from the council is to petition or write to your local member… I think it’s ridiculous it’s been removed and hope that the community will get the chance to vote on their children’s future health!
