Something bigger than that is needed.
A few years back Qld released a transit plan for Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast and they are sticking to it. It outlines rail, bus, road, cycle and pedestrian corridors.
NSW has released no such plan. It keeps chopping and changing. A clear goal needs to be set.

Couldn't agree more. I still think more money needs to be spent on infrastructure so cycle lanes are placed on all roads in the city. This way cyclists would have their own space which would making their mode of transport much safer. There are a lot of motorists that believe that cyclists shouldn't be on the roads, so where do they propose they ride? The footpath, where they will mow down pedestrians? Until there is a proper alternative to cyclists riding on roads, cyclists have every right to be there. It's about both the cyclist and motorist driving with caution and both parties obeying road rules.

I see time and time again, cyclists disobeying road rules such as running red lights. This is extremely dangerous, as I see pedestrians almost being knocked over and motorists having to stop very suddenly (when they're doing the right thing) because of inconsiderate cyclists. On the other-hand, motorists disobey road rules too; which injure other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Although cyclists may not cause too much damage to cars they certainly significantly injure pedestrians. If you are on the road, no matter the mode of transport your using, a little respect goes a long way to avoid unnecessary accidents.

Carl Scully certainly isn't painting a positive picture about cyclists. He should be the one, who tries to raise the profile of cyclists riding on our roads, to encourage the public to do the same. More people should be encouraged to ride bikes to reduce carbon emissions, reduce CBD congestion and promote a healthier lifestyle. Carl Scully should be ashamed of some of the remarks he makes that are unfounded and discourages people to ride their bikes.
